Yumekoubou Nakade

The company’s roots date to 1935, when its founder began working as a lacquer artisan in Yamanaka. The family business began manufacturing and wholesaling lacquerware in 1948 and was incorporated as Nakade Shikkiten Co., Ltd. in 1982.

A new headquarters and showroom opened in 2006, when the business adopted the name Yumekoubou Nakade. Guided by the motto “Always something new!”, it continues to explore shapes and colors that bring a fresh touch to the everyday table.

Koma Monyo

Bands of color recall the patterns of traditional Japanese spinning tops, or koma. The collection includes soup bowls that reinterpret this familiar motif in contemporary color combinations.

Koma Line

A collection that explores the rhythm and character of striped patterns. The range includes wooden lacquerware as well as wood-composite and resin pieces.

Sabi

Part of the company’s wooden lacquerware range, Sabi combines sculptural forms with textured surfaces to bring a quiet presence to the table.

The wider range includes Urushi Kiriko and Gin Sabi, as well as sake vessels, coffee storage boxes, tea canisters, and tiered food boxes. Materials and finishes vary by product.

Urushi Kiriko translates the faceted appearance of Japanese cut glass into wood and lacquer. Staining reveals the grain, while hexagonal carving creates the distinctive surface pattern. The collection includes soup bowls, cups, and small sake cups made from keyaki, or Japanese zelkova.

Stacking and nesting forms are another recurring feature. The Koma six-piece keyaki Shingen Bento set brings together vessels for rice, soup, and serving. Compact when stored, it unfolds into a varied set of tableware, inviting users to discover each piece in turn.

Katsuhito Nakade became president in 1995. In an interview with Kateigaho magazine, he described how the dimensions of a soup bowl became the starting point for the Shingen Bento set, whose structure he developed in consultation with a woodturner.

A single compact form opens to reveal vessels with different uses. This thoughtful approach to function brings a sense of play to everyday objects.
